Heat + pain wilts Emma in IOWA |

21 Jun - Sweltering, windy conditions saw the 50 starters dive into Blue Heron Lake with American Sara McLarty leading out of the 1.5k swim by 37secs, however a strong bike pack closed this gap in the 1st of 8 laps. Surprisingly Olympic champion Snowsill failed to make the 1st swim pack & was relegated to the large chase group for the entire flat but technical 40k bike segment however showed her run prowess despite a hip complaint by reeling in the entire lead group, except for team mate Moffatt, with the fastest run split of the day. With part of US$1M prize money I think we'll be having a big party when we get home said Snowsill. |

22 Jun - Training partners Emma Moffatt & Emma Snowsill blitzed the field for a 1-2 in the Triathlon World Championship race in Washington DC today. Moffatt emerged from the 1.5k swim in 2nd place, settled into the lead pack during the 40km ride then headed the 10km run. But it was a different story for Snowsill who was knocked around in the swim to emerge 9th from the water & then forced to ride solo before linking with a chase pack before hauling in the 7 leaders. It took some time to find her run rhythm but Snowsill steadily worked her way through the field to take Silver behind Moffitt & ahead of Daniella Ryf of Switzerland. |

18 Oct – Triathlete Emma Snowsill of Australia created sporting history today by becoming the only woman in the world to hold three World Championship Titles, The Commonwealth Games Gold Medal and the OLYMPIC Games Gold Medal at the same time. Under unexpected clear blue sky and stifling heat, Snowsill maintained exceptional race composure to win from pre-race favourite Vanessa Fernandes (POR) by more than 1Min 6secs. Always keeping within handy distance of the lead in the Ming Tomb reservoir 1.5k swim, Emma biked over the 40K paved circuit displaying astute experience & learned caution to arrive into T2 in third spot & within easy striking distance of the front. Following a lightening quick transition Snowsill swept to the running lead and was never threatened over the 10k sprint which she completed in a remarkable 33Min;16secs, despite taking time to Hi5 spectators along the finish shute. Her winning performance which ended Australia’s Triathlon Gold medal drought, earned her the praise of the Nations High Performance Coach who aptly described Snowsill as the "Best Female Triathlete in the world today & possibly of all time" In attendance at the stunning event were a number of dignitaries including Prince Albert of Monaco, the King and Queen of Sweden, members of the Spanish Royal Family, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, IOC President Jacques Rogge and many more IOC members including Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr |
