2005 ITU World Cup, New Plymouth, NZ. Snowsill withdraws then contests World Cup
13 Nov - Emma did a complete about face to compete in the ITU season finale in New Zealand despite previously announcing after Noosa that her 05 racing season was over. Consequently at the 3k mark of the run it looked like a duel between the fastest women in the new era of World Cup racing was about to unfold. But Emma had spent all her fitness by winning the big non-drafting Noosa race the weekend in Australia. Portugal's Fernandes pulled away to win, ahead of Luxford. Snowsill was seven second later in 3rd place.

06 Nov - Competing in another stratosphere yesterday, Emma blitzed her rivals in all three disciplines & was so far ahead of her nearest competitor that she finished among the male elite field of the earlier event. Despite difficult wet conditions she used a new FELT time-trial bike & her 40km cycle leg was 4min faster than any other woman. Gaining a huge 5:43 lead going into the 10km run, the 47kg dynamo won in 1hr 55.23min & would have been faster had she not paused to celebrate with family & friends in the last km.

2005 ITU World Championships, JAP. Emma Snowsill wins World Champion title again
11 Sep – Battling intense heat, high humidity and a technically difficult course, a triumphant Snowsill came within mere seconds of claiming a record winning margin. All medallists were in a group that broke away early in the 1.5k swim which included 2004 World Champion Sheila Toarmina & Barb Lindquist (USA). A chase pack including European champion Vanessa Fernandez (POR) tried desperately to catch the leaders but a blistering solo run set up Emma Snowsill's 2nd ITU World Championship win. Annabel Luxford (AUS) won the Silver Medal with Laura Bennett (USA) claiming bronze.

14 Aug - Heavy rain caused very strong currents & icy water in the swollen Tiszau River. During the swim, race commentators referred to cycle mechanics urgently looking over Emma's bike in Transition. Exiting 3rd from the swim, a snared ankle timing chip meant she lost touch with the leaders. Hampered by a crack in the rim of her wheel which was rubbing on the bike frame, she elected to cruise safely in 18th position at the rear of a pack to avoid a crash. Eating up the deficit with the fastest run, Emma managed to finish 8secs behind 3rd place.

2005 Greater London Triathlon, GBR. Emma wins in Worlds Largest Triathlon
07 Aug – The London event, billed as the largest Triathlon in the world, attracted 8,000+ participants over various age categories to the chilly River Thames. The Pro women’s race saw a determined swim dual develop between two past World Champions Leanda Cave (GBR) & Emma Snowsill (AUS), with Cave breaking out of T1 to a solid lead on the non-drafting 40k bike leg. Snowsill with Liz Blatchford & Michelle Dillon (GBR) gave chase thru Central London past Westminster, Parliament & Big Ben. Snowsill eventually broke back in the 10k run to win by 64seconds.

2005 ITU World Cup, Edmonton, CAN. Snowsill wins World Cup, 1sec off a course record
23 July - Australian Emma Snowsill backed up her win last week in Minneapolis with her 2nd World Cup victory of the season at Edmonton Canada today. Snowsill swam & rode with Annabel Luxford, then turned on the afterburners with a race-best 10km run of 35:32 to take a 50 second margin of victory at 1:58:12. The women contended with ferocious winds throughout the race. "There where powerful side gusts & you had to careful. I was a bit behind in the swim & I worked in transition to close the gap on the bike." Snowsill said.

2005 Lifetime Fitness Triathlon, Minnesota, USA. Snowsill 1st woman across the line
16 July - The Life Time Fitness Triathlon with US$1/2M purse is an Olympic distance non-drafting race at Lake Nokomis, Minneapolis. Under an unusual 'equalizer' format, the professional women started 9mins 32secs earlier than the Pro men. The idea is to bring the top men and women to the finish line at the same time. The 1st of each gender collect $80,000 with an extra bonus of $80,000 + SUV to the overall top finisher. On a scorching humid day Snowsill beat all the women, but got caught with only a mile to go by Craig Alexander.

2005 Mooloolaba ITU World Cup, QLD, AUS. Emma wins Silver at World Cup
01 May - Snowsill & Luxford mistakenly swam off course and outside the shark net buoys in the choppy ocean swim, allowing Olympic Silver medallist Loretta Harrop to get a 1min 22sec buffer entering T1. Going solo on the bike to maintain her advantage, Harrop, using her dozen years of race experience, lead over the entire 40K’s technically difficult bike course with the chase riders unable to close the gap. Snowsill had the day's fastest 10km run split and narrowed the gap however Harrop was rewarded for her solo ride by a World Cup Victory.

2005 Honolulu World Cup, Hawaii USA. Snowsill wins World Cup & breaks local course record
16 Apr - Olympian Loretta Harrop led through the 1.5km swim off Waikiki Beach. A bike pack with Olympic Bronze medallist Williams, Lindquist, (USA) & Snowsill rode together over the tough 4 lap Diamond Head cycle course but were nearly 2min behind Harrop at T2. Snowsill took just 2.5ks to overtake the leader with a blistering run time of 34.01 and crossed the finish line a clear 2 min ahead of Harrop who just held off Luxford by 3 secs for 3rd. Snowsill's time of 02:04:39 broke the course record by 3mins.Olympic Gold Medallist Kate Allen placed 18th.

2005 National Championship, Geelong, AUS. Emma wins National Championship
27 Mar - Emma Snowsill continued her strong early-season form by winning the National Triathlon title. The 23yr-old clocked 2hrs 2mins 10secs over the Olympic distance course. After leading the swim & sharing the bike lead, Snowsill had a slow T2 before dominating the run. "I had a strong day overall but I struggled in the cold conditions. A national title is huge in any sport & to take it is great considering the depth of talent in the Australian girls" she said. Luxford was 2nd & Abram ran down former world champion Nicole Hackett for 3rd.

20 Feb - World #1 Barb Lindquist (USA) took a 40sec lead in the Derwent River swim ahead of Emma Snowsill, Maxine Seear & Pip Taylor. Snowsill mounted a lone bike pursuit and by the 2nd of 8 laps caught Lindquist. The lead gap was closed over the next 5 cycle laps by a determined chase pack as Lindquist led out of T2 for the run around Hobart’s docks. But 2003 World Champion Snowsill forged to the lead scoring an emphatic win by 1min 30secs, securing her spot to race in the next ITU World Championships.

2005 Gatorade Triathlon, Caloundra, AUS. Emma Snowsill dominates Gatorade Triathlon
12 Feb - Emma Snowsill began her 2005 racing season on a winning note today, taking out the Gatorade Triathlon at Caloundra in Queensland with a dominating performance over a strong contingent. Melanie Mitchell led Snowsill and Lisa White out of the swim with the bike leaders position changing several times before Snowsill got into her rhythm and took the lead at T2. First onto the run, Emma with former world cross country champion Mitchell was only 28sec behind, however Snowsill showed a clean pair of heels to cruise to victory by over 60secs.
